Heitz Cellar – Farm to Fork Wine Dinner

Heitz Cellar, the focal winery of The Grove’s Farm to Fork Wine Dinner, has been crafting classic wines in Napa Valley since 1961. This family-owned establishment shaped the history of Napa Valley winemaking thanks to its dedication to viticulture, stewardship, and classic winemaking.

Joe and Alice Heitz founded Heitz Cellar after acquiring an eight-acre vineyard and winery, which later became the home to the ever-so-popular tasting room. In April 2018, the Heitz Cellar’s legacy passed into the hands of new ownership, the Lawrence family, who have expressed their similar commitment to quality from organically farmed, 100% Napa Valley fruit and a commitment to sustainability.

The prized establishment has planted roots in Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Howell Mountain, Oak Knoll District, and Calistoga, California, with 100% of the vineyards growing California Certified Organic Farmers organic. Throughout the years, Heitz Cellar has developed 60 vintages, each embodying the place and time in each bottle of wine.

Wines

The winery featured three vineyard-designated cabernet sauvignons, Martha’s Vineyard, Trailside Vineyard, and Linda Falls Vineyard, and a cuvée, Lot C-91. The winery’s specialty lies in Cabernet Sauvignons, but they also sell a Chardonnay.

The thirty-four-acre Martha’s Vineyard was introduced in 1966, with each bottle aging five years inside French Limousin oak barrels before it is bottled and left to mature another full year in the cellar. The Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Martha’s Vineyard 2016 was named Wine Spectators #3 Top 100 wine of 2021.

In 1984, The Trailside Vineyard was introduced, embodying the spirit of the heart of Napa Valley. After planting in what is known as the ‘textbook perfect’ site for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, each vineyard block is fermented and aged separately, allowing Winemakers to determine the best barrels to craft the Trailside Cabernet.

The most recent vineyard-designated cabernet sauvignons is Linda Falls Vineyard, established in 2013, delivering a distinct terroir expression from its unique position and topography on Howell Mountain. Once pulled from its picturesque, hilly roots, the wine spends three years in oak, one year in neutral American oak tanks, and two years in 100% new tight-grain French oak barrels to craft the best notes possible.

Lastly is Lot C-91 Cabernet Sauvignon, a cuvée perfect crafted after 50 years of hard work and dedication to the craft. This historical cuvée is sourced exclusively from the renowned single vineyards of Heitz Cellar and showcases a unique expression of Napa Valley’s origins.
