The Grove & MTSU to Host NCAA Men’s Golf Regional

NCAA Men’s Golf Regional at The Grove

Thirteen teams representing the best of colligate men’s golf from across the country teed it up at The Grove last month for the 2017 NCAA Men’s Golf Regional. The Grove partnered with Middle Tennessee State University to host a field including Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, and Clemson in the first NCAA regional hosted by MTSU since 1979.

Getting The Grove Regional Ready

Preparation for this prestigious event began in 2015 after The Grove was selected as one of six sites to host a NCAA regional from a field that included bids from courses across the country—solidifying The Grove as a nationwide premier golf facility.

“To secure a bid like this for that prestigious of an event, you have to have a world class golf course. The Grove fits that; they check all the boxes in regards to the golf course, the amenities, the staffing and things that need to be in place,” said Whit Turnbow, MT senior associate athletic director.

The course at The Grove did not disappoint. Golfers were met by formidable challenges at every turn that set the stage for an exciting three days of golf, with green speeds and winds increasing with each round.

After three hard fought rounds, Middle Tennessee found themselves sitting in sixth place, one spot away from a trip to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. “To think where we were a year ago, to be disappointed to finish sixth in a regional is pretty astounding to think about how far we’ve come and the hard work these guys have put in,” said MT Head Coach Brennan Webb.

Coach Webb also praised The Grove for providing a sterling example of how to host a NCAA regional.

“It was just a phenomenal job done by everyone associated with The Grove Club and MT Athletics,” … I think I’ve been to nine regionals as a coach or player and I know I’m biased, but this is the best one I’ve ever been to. I’m just proud of everybody, proud to be associated with MTSU and really excited about the future.”

The Grove is looking forward to continuing our relationship with Middle Tennessee State University and the NCAA.

We are confident that after displaying the caliber of professionalism and dedication that everyone at The Grove and MTSU took in hosting a NCAA Regional, it won’t be another 38 years before another NCAA tournament comes to The Grove.
