History buffs have long been drawn to Franklin, with one of the greatest attractions being Carnton Plantation, built in 1826. During the Battle of Franklin in 1864, Carnton served as the largest field hospital in the area. The Carter House, command post for the Union Army, is located nearby and noted for being the most bullet-riddled building still standing from the Civil War.
