Seminar Series: Breaking Ground

southern living

Hatcliff Construction is a family-owned and operated construction company that has been building fine custom homes in Middle Tennessee for over 28 years. For the seventh year, Hatcliff has been named a member of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program. Southern Living carefully selects custom homebuilders that transcend the pages of the magazine into a dream home.

Q: Is there a certain criteria that needs to be met to become a Southern Living Builder?

A: Yes. There are currently 80 home builders in the South that have been admitted to the Southern Living Builders Program and in order to be considered, applicants must first be vetted; this process includes an interview of the company, past customers, as well as a review of past work. Southern Living focuses on the ‘particular’ customer who is looking for a custom home, so the process is extremely thorough.

Q: Once you are a Southern Living Builder, what is the process to have one of your homes become a Southern Living Signature Home?

A: First, you must submit an original plan that is then reviewed from top to bottom. Southern Living must approve the proposed community, the lot, architect, and interior design choices. Once your plan is approved, it then becomes part of Southern Living’s list of approved plans where Southern Living Customers can buy the plan it to use.

Q: What comes with being a Southern Living Builder?

A: Once you have been named a Southern Living Builder, you can use any and all the products endorsed or exclusively partnered with Southern Living that you wish and of course, the notoriety that comes with having Southern Living attached to your name doesn’t hurt!

Q: As a Southern Living Builder you could build anywhere in Tennessee, why chose The Grove?

A: We absolutely love everything about The Grove! It’s close to the city, but far enough away from all the hustle and bustle to be a peaceful country retreat. The amenities are among the best around, from the Golf Course, to the Rosemary Spa, the walking trails and of course, the gorgeous Manor House. The Grove’s exclusivity was a huge factor in our selection; they are very particular about architects and builders that they use and we share those same standards when it comes to our designs and construction.

Q: What can you tell us about your Southern Living Signature Home?

A: The architect is Mitchell Barnett and this is his first plan to be included in Southern Living collection This home pulls it’s inspiration from the typical southern home; it’s a four bedroom, four bath at 5,600 square feet with big porches, barrel-vault ceilings and lots of open space. There’s a two-story back veranda that overlooks Hole 11, while the remainder of the lot is protected by large trees to give the owner tons of privacy. There’s even a fully appointed golf cart parking area, billiards room, exercise room, and two utility rooms.

The interior is completely furnished by Davishire Interior Designs who will give the space an eclectic, yet originally southern feel. Expect to see a mix of original art placed tastefully around the home along with rugs, mirrors, and antique furnishings
